Eligible Swimmers
We encourage swimmers of all abilities, ages 4 (by 05/31/26) through 18, to join JAWS Summer Swim Team. Eligible swimmers must be able to swim at the first practice without floats. While four year olds may participate in daily practices and stroke clinics, these young swimmers are NOT allowed to compete at meets. In accordance with Cobb County guidelines, only swimmers 5+ years of age by 5/31/26 are permitted to participate in meets. In addition, no assistance (coaches or other team members) will be allowed during meet events. This means that in order to compete, swimmers must be able to complete the distance (approximately 25 yards) unassisted within 1 minute 30 seconds. This is also a Cobb County rule and is meant to ensure the equitable and timely running of meets.
Competition Age Groups
Competition age groups are determined by the swimmer’s age as of May 31, 2026. The competition age groups are as follows:

Swimmers ages 5-6 will only compete in freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers ages 7 & older will become familiar with and are allowed to compete in all four strokes (freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke), but need not be proficient. The coaches will be working with swimmers to improve strokes, starts, turns and confidence!
Inclement Weather
Summer weather can often be very unpredictable. Practices and meets will take place even in light rain. If it is raining heavily or if we experience thunderstorms, practices and/or meets will most likely be delayed or possibly cancelled. Swimmers need to be out of the pool for at least 30 minutes each time thunder is heard.
